Field notes
Prep at Home. Relax at Camp.
A few small jobs before departure can make your first camp dinner much easier.

Read the entire menu once
Look for jobs that require a big cutting board, several measuring spoons, or a sink full of dishes. Those are good candidates for home prep. Make a quick list before pulling ingredients from the pantry.
Measure dry ingredients
Combine pancake mix, oat toppings, and dry seasonings into separate labeled containers. Add the recipe name and any wet ingredients still needed. Keep different recipes separate so the instructions remain obvious.
Pack in meal order
Put the arrival meal where you can reach it without unloading every food box. Keep breakfast supplies together. Store leak-prone containers upright and separate raw ingredients from ready-to-eat foods when applicable.
Leave yourself room to improvise
A flexible menu is easier to enjoy. Keep one meal simple and let the rest of the day decide when it happens. A good camp kitchen supports the trip instead of becoming its main project.
